Lawrence leads No. 1 Clemson’s 73-7 rout of Georgia Tech

Trevor Lawrence passed for a career-high 404 yards and five touchdowns as No. 1 Clemson remained undefeated with a 73-7 thumping of Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.The Tigers (5-0, 4-0 ACC) stormed to a 51-7 halftime lead and coasted to their 26th consecutive victory against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.Clemson outgained the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-2) by a 671-204 margin.After the Tigers took a 7-0 lead with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to Cornell Powell on their second possession, Georgia Tech struck back with a 59-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Sims to Jalen Camp to tie the game.But it was all Clemson from there as the Tigers responded with a big play of their own — an 83-yard strike from Lawrence to Amari Rodgers that jumpstarted a 45-0 run to close the half.Rodgers, who caught six passes for 161 yards, added a 16-yard scoring catch from Lawrence with 16 seconds left in the first half. In between Clemson got TD tosses from Lawrence to Davis Allen for 34 yards and Frank Ladson for 8 yards while Travis Etienne scored on a 3-yard run and defensive tackle Nyles Pinckney scored on a 1-yard plunge out of a Jumbo package.The Tigers had 479 yards in the first half, and their 35-point second quarter tied the school record for most points in any quarter.
