Shohei Ohtani pitched seven scoreless innings, Santiago Espinal and Mookie Betts hit back-to-back home runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.
Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call also drove in runs in a new-look lineup as the Dodgers won for just the second time in six games against the rival Giants this season.
Ohtani (3-2) allowed four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts as he lowered his ERA to 0.82 in seven starts. The two-way star was not used as a hitter for the fourth time on a day that he pitched.
The Giants received two hits each from Luis Arraez and Rafael Devers as they saw a three-game winning streak come to an end, as well as an eight-game home-run streak. Left-hander Robbie Ray (3-5) gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings for San Francisco.
Orioles 7, Yankees 0
Kyle Bradish held visiting New York to one hit over six innings and Adley Rutschman belted a two-run home run and drove in three runs as Baltimore won the rubber match.
The Yankees were held without a hit until Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s fifth-inning, one-out double. Bradish (2-5) finished with seven strikeouts and three walks, throwing 100 pitches. Blaze Alexander went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Coby Mayo and Pete Alonso both had two hits and an RBI.
New York starter Max Fried worked three innings before leaving with left elbow soreness. The team announced he will be evaluated and undergo imaging Thursday in New York. Fried (4-3), who threw 61 pitches, gave up three runs on five hits and one walk with a pair of strikeouts.
Padres 3, Brewers 1
Gavin Sheets drilled a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give visiting San Diego a comeback victory over Milwaukee.
Miguel Andujar ignited the rally with a two-out single off closer Abner Uribe (2-2), who came in for the ninth. Xander Bogaerts walked and Sheets then sent an 0-1 pitch 398 feet to right-center for his sixth homer. Jason Adam (2-0) tossed a scoreless eighth. Mason Miller finished for his 13th save in 13 opportunities.
Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski held the Padres to four hits through seven scoreless innings but left with what he called cramping in his right quad. Aaron Ashby replaced Misiorowski and pitched a scoreless inning before the Padres broke through against Uribe to snap the Brewers’ five-game winning streak.
Blue Jays 5, Rays 3
Daulton Varsho hit a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning, giving Toronto a victory over visiting Tampa Bay.
Varsho’s blast to left came against Aaron Brooks (0-1) and salvaged the finale of the three-game set. With one out in the last of the 10th, Brooks walked Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto to load the bases. On a 2-2 fastball, Varsho hit a 375-foot shot for his fifth homer of the year, his second career walk-off blast and sixth grand slam.
Tampa Bay’s Ben Williamson scored automatic runner Chandler Simpson with a leadoff single in the top of the 10th against Jeff Hoffman (2-2). Williamson stole second and scored on Yandy Diaz’s one-out single to center.
Mets 3, Tigers 2 (10 innings)
Carson Benge capped the first three-hit game of his career with the walk-off single in the 10th inning for host New York, which continued stirring with a win over struggling Detroit.
Luis Torrens struck out against Drew Anderson (1-1) before Benge singled home automatic runner A.J. Ewing to give the Mets their seventh win in 11 games — their best 11-game stretch since opening the season 7-4. Brooks Raley (1-1) walked one and struck out one in a scoreless top of the 10th.
Riley Greene went 3-for-5 for the Tigers, whom he put ahead in the first by hitting a two-run single to center. Kevin McGonigle singled, walked twice and stole a base as Detroit fell for the seventh time in eight games.
Nationals 8, Reds 7 (10 innings)
Daylen Lile hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning and Washington held on to beat host Cincinnati after an umpire’s review in the bottom of the inning.
Lile, a Louisville product who hit two homers in his first game at Great American Ball Park on Monday, homered off Tony Santillan (1-2) with one out and automatic runner CJ Abrams on second.
In the bottom of the 10th, Spencer Steer hit a shot to left off PJ Poulin, and a fan reached over the fence to catch it. A crew-chief review confirmed spectator interference, and Steer was given a double as automatic runner Sal Stewart scored. Tyler Stepenson walked with two outs, but Blake Dunn grounded out as Poulin earned his second save.
Guardians 4, Angels 2
Angel Martinez hit a leadoff homer, stole two bases and scored twice as Cleveland completed a three-game sweep of visiting Los Angeles.
Martinez homered for the second straight day and Parker Messick (5-1) continued his impressive rookie season with 6 2/3 innings and seven strikeouts. The left-hander gave up two runs on four hits with three walks.
The Guardians are 30-4 against the Angels in Cleveland since 2015, the most lopsided matchup in baseball over that span. This was their first sweep of the season.
Rangers 6, Diamondbacks 5
Danny Jansen’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run in Texas’ walk-off victory over Arizona in Arlington, Texas.
The Rangers were down to their last out but scored three runs with two outs. Ezequiel Duran hit an RBI double, and Jake Burger had a game-tying single, both off Paul Sewald (0-4). Jansen’s decisive hit came against Juan Morillo. Burger earlier hit a three-run homer.
Cal Quantrill (2-0) got all three outs in the top of the ninth after the Diamondbacks scored three runs to take a 5-3 lead. Nolan Arenado doubled twice and had two RBIs for Arizona.
Braves 4, Cubs 1
Mike Yastrzemski hit a tiebreaking pinch-hit double in the eighth inning and Mauricio Dubon followed with a two-run homer, helping Atlanta defeat visiting Chicago.
Drake Baldwin also homered for the Braves, who won their fourth straight, secured a series victory and became the first team to reach 30 wins this year. Robert Suarez (4-0) pitched one shutout inning and Raisel Iglesias handled the ninth for his eighth save.
Shota Imanaga (4-3) tossed seven-plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits in the Cubs’ fourth straight loss. Nico Hoerner had Chicago’s lone RBI.
Rockies 10, Pirates 4
Mickey Moniak collected three hits and five RBIs while coming up a single short of a cycle on his 28th birthday, leading Colorado to a win over host Pittsburgh.
Moniak socked a three-run homer off Pirates starter Mitch Keller (4-2) to break a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning and help the Rockies snap a three-game skid. The 372-foot blast was Moniak’s 12th of the season and highlighted a six-run fifth for Colorado. TJ Rumfield also homered among his three hits.
Keller gave up six runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked one over 5 2/3 innings. Antonio Senzatela (3-0) relieved Rockies starter Jose Quintana in the fifth and pitched three innings. He permitted just one run, on Ryan O’Hearn’s home run in the sixth that cut the Rockies’ lead to 6-4.
Red Sox 3, Phillies 1
Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer and Trevor Story also went deep, propelling Boston past visiting Philadelphia split the first two games of a three-game series.
After Wilyer Abreu singled in the sixth, Rafaela pinch-hit for Masataka Yoshida and delivered his fourth home run of the season. Story gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead when he homered against Andrew Painter in the second inning. It was his third home run of the season.
Boston received six innings from starting pitcher Sonny Gray (4-1), who limited the Phillies to a run on two hits in six innings. The Phillies had runners on second and third with two outs in the ninth thanks to two walks and a double steal, but Aroldis Chapman earned his ninth save by striking out Alec Bohm to end the game.
White Sox 6, Royals 5
Colson Montgomery went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and Jarred Kelenic had two hits and two RBIs to lift host Chicago past Kansas City.
Reaching the .500 mark for the first time since March 31, 2025, the White Sox won their fourth straight while sending the Royals to their fifth loss in seven games. Tyler Davis (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his first major league win.
Seranthony Dominguez earned his 10th save despite allowing Bobby Witt Jr.’s two-run homer with two outs in the ninth. Carter Jensen had two of the Royals’ five hits.
Marlins 9, Twins 5
Owen Caissie hit a two-run homer, Liam Hicks tallied three RBIs and Miami pulled away for a over Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Xavier Edwards doubled, tripled, drove in a run and scored three runs for Miami, which evened the three-game set with the rubber match slated for Thursday afternoon. Joe Mack and Otto Lopez also finished with one RBI apiece.
Byron Buxton hit two solo home runs to lead Minnesota offensively. Kody Clemens added a solo home run and Josh Bell drove in two runs for the Twins, whose three-game winning streak ended.
Astros 4, Mariners 3
Zach Cole delivered a walk-off single in the 10th inning as Houston pulled out a victory over visiting Seattle.
The Astros snapped a nine-game skid against Seattle with their first walk-off win this season. Brice Matthews, who opened the 10th at second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch by reliever Alex Hoppe (0-1) before Cole capped his three-hit night with a single to right. Bryan Abreu (2-2) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th.
Seattle finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base. Houston went 2-for-12 and stranded 14. Christian Walker hit his 10th homer and Jose Altuve drove in a pair for the Astros, while the Mariners’ J.P. Crawford opened the game with a homer and Luke Raley also went deep.
Athletics 6, Cardinals 4
Nick Kurtz drilled a grand slam and Zack Gelof also went deep to help the Athletics notch a victory over St. Louis in West Sacramento, Calif.
Kurtz also doubled to extend his streak of reaching base to 36 consecutive games. Darell Hernaiz had three hits and J.T. Ginn (2-1) allowed one unearned run in six strong innings. Henry Bolte had two hits and one walk with one RBI in his first big-league game.
Alec Burleson recorded three hits and Nathan Church had two hits and an RBI for St. Louis. JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn also had two hits for the Cardinals, who lost for the third time in their past four games.
