Ezequiel Tovar powers Rockies past Cardinals

Ezequiel Tovar went 4-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs to power the visiting Colorado Rockies past the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Saturday afternoon.Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored for the Rockies.Colorado starting pitcher Ryan Feltner held the Cardinals to two hits in 5 1/3 innings, but he was victimized for four unearned runs. He struck out seven batters and walked one.Reliever Victor Vodnik (1-0) earned the victory and Tyler Kinley earned his fourth save.Matt Carpenter hit a home run and scored twice for the Cardinals, who have lost six of their last nine games.Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out seven batters and walked two.Reliever Andrew Kittredge (0-3) allowed three runs in the seventh inning to take the loss.The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Blackmon hit a single, raced to third on an error and scored on Tovar’s single.Colorado increased its lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning on a homer by Tovar, a double by Elehuris Montero and an RBI single by Jake Cave.
